About Us

FamilyMountain View Lofts was named in 2004 after the second win in the Vegas Classic, they won it in 2002 as well, and the decision to offer some birds to the sport was made, and it doesn’t hurt that we have a lovely view of Mt. Spokane. Mountain View Lofts is located just outside the city limits of Spokane, WA, and we fly in the Spokane Racing Pigeon Club. It is owned and operated by Eric Houchin, his lovely wife Lachrisa, daughter Jesslyne -15, and son Keathan -6.

Eric has been involved with pigeons since 1985, when he acquired some common birds from a neighbor, and then some fancy birds, but found his love of racing homers in 1987, and flew his first race in 1990, he originally flew in the TCW club in SE Washington, but moved to Spokane in 1997, and has been there ever since, although he moved in 2001 to his current location, as one of his neighbors complained about the birds in the city. Eric is currently the club race secretary, a job he has enjoyed for 7 years now.

Goal:
The goal of Mountain View Lofts is to produce birds that will improve the race results for the new owner, whether it be breeding stock or racing kits, we strive to produce birds that will make a positive impact on race day.

Philosophy:
Our philosophy at Mountain View Lofts is to breed from a highly concentrated gene pool of winners, we want to see many members of the family tree being winners, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, brothers and sisters, the more the better, not necessarily just one bird that has a great season. We feel this improves the probability that those winning genes will be passed to generation after generation. We have a “European” approach to our breeding program, we try and find the best and closet birds to champions and breed them together, we do not concentrate on strains or names, just quality pigeons, just the same way as many European Champions themselves do. We do try to keep our birds mated by the distances that they are normally flown, we keep middle distance with middle distance, one day long distance with one day long distance, and so forth.
